HABITAT for HUMANITY

Habitat Freeport: A Habitat for Humanity project is underway in Freeport which may be of particular interest to parishioners of St. Jude’s Church. Habitat organizers would like to have someone associated with the Church participate in the steering committee. This would ensure that Sacred Heart Parish can support the project in different ways. Please let the parish office know if you are interested, along with Freeport Habitat group. The website describes the following: In the spring of 2008, L.L. Bean donated a 26x32 cape-style house, which we then deconstructed. During the late summer we moved the home to a lot on West Street donated by the Town of Freeport....Our goal is to raise $120,000 of both cash and in-kind donations in order to complete deconstruction and full renovations. Thus far, $20,000 has been donated for the work. We are now seeking individuals to join a steering committee to raise funds and awareness for the project in the Freeport community. If you are interested in joining this committee, please contact us. Information can be obtained through the Portland office of Habitat or on the website.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating substandard housing throughout the world. Since its organization in 1985, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland has built 43 simple, decent, affordable homes by using volunteer labor and donations of land, material and money. Our 43 homes, like all Habitat homes, were then sold to a partner family at cost by means of a no-interest, no-profit loan.
