FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP -
PUBLISHED BY: USCCB
Living in a democratic republic we have a
responsibility as citizens and as Christians to participate in the
electoral process. Our choices are not always clear or easy. The American
bishops have published this booklet that outlines some of the moral
principles and social teachings of the Church that can help us form our
decisions as we prepare for the election. Copies are available in both
church libraries and information is also available at
www.usccb.org/faithfulcitizenship.
While You Were Gone -

surprised at some of the changes that you see? Are you curious about what
it all means? William Bausch’s book While You Were Gone is the book
for you. It is a fast read and not only enjoyable, but very informative.

THE GIVING TREE -
By Shel Silverstein
This is a tender story touched with sadness, aglow with
consolation. Shel Silverstein has created a moving parable for readers of
all ages that offers an affecting interpretation of the gift of giving and
a serene acceptance of another’s capacity to love in return. This book is
available in both church libraries.
JOSHUA - by Joseph Girzone

and is a truly uplifting film for the entire family. It is based on the
best-selling novel by Joseph Girzone (which can be found in the Sacred
Heart and St. Jude libraries) that touched the lives of millions and is an
inspirational story about a stranger whose mysterious “supernatural”
powers inspire a small town. Joshua is rated G and the feature running
time is 90 minutes. One VHS copy can be found in each church library —
sign it out for a real viewing treat!
TAMING THE MEDIA
MONSTER - By Dan Andriacco
As Catholics, we cannot live in isolation of the media.
But, at times, it is difficult to decide what to allow for media
entertainment in our homes. The author, Dan Andriacco, does a great job
giving parents practical ideas on how to utilize the internet, television
and movies to the greatest advantage and with the utmost safety. Check
this book out in the libraries downstairs in the Sacred Heart hall or
downstairs in St. Jude’s library.
The Dove Foundation is an
independent rating organization that describes cinema films, TV films, and
electronic games with accuracy and candor, and rates them as appropriate
or inappropriate for families. Each review has a paragraph giving an
unbiased plot description followed by an assessment of strong language,
skin, drugs, violence, and the like. The reviewer might end the review by
saying, "It was a fun film, but don't take the kids."
