WORSHIP &
SPIRITUALITY
CHRISTIAN INITIAtION (rcia)
Are you thinking of
becoming Catholic? Do you know someone who is interested in the Catholic
Church? The RCIA is meeting on Monday evenings at 6pm at Holy Martyrs
Church in Falmouth. Our cluster has begun a shared program in order to
provide a richer sharing of the faith.
Prayer for a New Evangelization
Loving Father, Lord of
heaven and earth, you gather us together to be your church in this
time and place. Send your Spirit to be with us, and open our hearts to
do your will. As we make this journey as a diocesan church, we trust
that you will guide us along the way. Help us embrace this new
evangelization with faith and love. May it empower us to recognize you
and to bear witness to your presence in the world. We ask this through
Christ our Lord. Amen
HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH MINISTRY
We hope all teens
will come and enjoy an evening together and learn what Youth Ministry
has to offer families.
Jr. high (grade
7-8) will be meeting on Sunday evenings in the Sacred Heart hall at the
same time as the High School (6:30-800pm). They’ll have separate
classes with their own adult leaders.
JUNIOR HIGH YOUTH
MINISTRY
We hope all teens
will come and enjoy an evening together and learn what Youth Ministry
has to offer families.
Jr. high (grade
7-8) will be meeting on Sunday evenings in the Sacred Heart hall at
the same time as the High School (6:30-800pm). They’ll have separate
classes with their own adult leaders.
STEWARDSHIP
Stewardship teaches us to be
aware that God is the ultimate giver of the gifts we have to share, and we
should give back to God gratefully.
SACRED HEART & ST. JUDE NEWS
Finance & Administration
Our Gift to God
last week was $8404.19……194 envelope
users gave $6571.00 in their regular envelopes. Thank you for your
generous gifts and support to our parish and others in need! Our
average weekly offering needed to balance the budget is $8,055.
It’s never too early to
teach your children about the tool of money. Teach them how to work for it
and they learn pride and self-respect. Teach them how to save it and they
learn security and self-worth. Teach them how to be generous with it and
they learn love. —Judith Jamison
(1943- ) African-American dancer and choreographer
This weekend we welcome
Connor Matthew, child of Matthew
and Danielle (Skillin) Reali to our parish family through the sacrament of
Baptism.

Discussion Leader: Carolyn Ruggle
thanks everyone for
your participation in helping to make this year’s St Jude Holiday Fair
such a wonderful success. A
formal financial summary of the fair will be coming out soon
Haiti
— News reports from Haiti in
recent weeks reflect the never-ending problems of this poor country. The
collapse of a school in the Port au Prince area was one tragedy. There
have also been severe rainstorms on the south coast where our sister
parish is located. Haitians have had to deal with flooding, including loss
of life. Earlier in September, in an interesting discussion with Father
Simon Francois, he mentioned a plan by his diocese to undertake
reforestation as a local project. Priests of each parish will take a
leading role with local people to plant and protect new trees. They are
not depending on any national program from the capital. Father Francois
stated that the diocese will have experts to assist in this local effort.
This weekend, our financial support to Sacre-Coeur de Meyer and Father
Francois will involve a door collection after each Mass. Your support is
important and appreciated.
St. Jude Family &
Children’s Choir: I am
excited that this year we will be having a 6:00pm Children's Mass at St.
Jude on Christmas Eve. I would love to have the Family/Children Choir sing
again this year. We will be rehearsing following Sunday Mass beginning
Sunday, November 23 through December 21 for approximately 1/2 hour each
Sunday. Please let me know if you are interested in participating. You can
call (865-9167) or email (shw39@suscom-maine.net) me or speak to me
following Mass. Thanks!! Sharyl
Sacred Heart Adult Choir
Our Adult Choir’s next outreach
event will be at St. Joseph’s Manor in Portland. The choir will sing for
the residents there on Saturday Nov. 22.
Teen Choir:
If you are a 7-12th grader that would like to participate, please contact
Ron Siviski.
The
Sacred Heart 8:00 Choir is starting rehearsals for the
Christmas Season. Our plan is to gather after Mass on November 23rd at
9:05 — just after doughnuts — to prepare about 4 anthems. Of course,
you should feel free to join us at 7:45am as we prepare for the 8:00 Mass
as well! All are welcome to this family-centered choir. We plan to sing at
the 4:00 Mass on Christmas eve. Our rehearsals in the Sacred Heart hall
are at 9:05am on 11/23, 11/30, 12/7, 12/14, 12/21.
We have two more family
workshops before the end of the year. The first one is called Saints
Alive and is scheduled for Sunday, November 16th. This one will be held at
St. Jude from 6 to 7pm. The second workshop is scheduled for December 14th
and will be a Christmas Pageant. We really could use help for the pageant.
If you are available, please contact us (846-5584) and leave a message.
Any help is appreciated — from directing to costumes, to scenery
development. If anyone has any old costumes that we can use, please let
Debbie or Ann know as soon as possible.
As we begin our new
adventure in trying to help our parish to be as welcoming as possible, we
are looking for people who could give one and a half hours per month for 8
months a year to help with our families with challenges programs.
Mainly, we need companions for the students. Qualifications are as follows”
you must be kind, loving, compassionate, have a sense of humor and an open
heart. Can you help? This might turn out to be the most rewarding
adventure of your life! Call the rectory for more information (846-5584).
Register for Religious Education.
We have many programs for all ages
— even you older folks. Please remember that all children from age 2
thru high school have to register or re-register every year.
Wayside Evening Soup
Kitchen: Our parish volunteers
to prepare and serve meals for the poor and homeless people in Portland on
the 5th Friday of the month — October 31st. Will you help? Your
willing hands are needed. Any and all help is appreciated. If you can’t
come, can you bake or buy a dessert and bring it to the rectory by 3 on
the 31st? FMI: Bill (688-4851) or Maureen (865-4252)
St. Vincent’s Clothing
Collection:
Men’s Clothing for St. Vincent Program - At the present time, there is a
need for men’s clothing at the St. Vincent de Paul soup kitchen. Each
Friday, the volunteer staff displays donated clothing for the people who
come to the kitchen for a noonday meal. The clothing is distributed to men
and women facing hardship. In particular, there is a need for MEN’S
SHIRTS -- tee shirts, sweatshirts or regular shirts -- lightweight or
heavy. Please consider donating any extra items by dropping them off at
the church or office. They will be put to good use.
Pennies From Heaven ?
Nope…..pennies from You!
Every time you use GoodSearch.com as your search engine, Sacred Heart
Parish receives a penny. It doesn’t sound like much but if everyone uses
GoodSearch as their computer home page these pennies add up very fast.
With a few people’s help we have raised a few dollars. Thank you! Just
imagine how many pennies we can collect if everyone who uses a computer
helps out. Did you know that you can also GoodSHOP? Many top retailers
such as Target, Home Depot, and Best Buy participate in this program and
will donate a percentage of the amount purchased to Sacred Heart Parish.
To get started, go to you internet page and click on the Tools Tab. Click
on Internet Options. In the General Tab Home page address type in http://goodsearch.com
and press apply and then the OK button. Click on the Home page button and
the GoodSearch powered by Yahoo has become your new homepage. Now just
type Sacred Heart Parish (Yarmouth, ME) under “Who do you GoodSearch for”
verify and you are all set. A Big Thank You for your support!
